What to see for a single day around Sofia?

There is so much to do and see around Sofia! So let me suggest another quick trip on the weekend - The Cherepish Monastery, The Seven Seats Monastery and The Grandpa Yotso’s Watching statue.

The Cherepish Monastery

The monastery is located on the bank of the Iskar river and it’s 30 km from Vratsa. It’s a very small but very beautiful place with where you can relax for a few hours. There is building in the monastery, themed around the bulgarian poet Ivan Vazov (1850 – 1921), who used this place as an inspiration for many of his works, including Dyado Yotzo Gleda (Grandpa Yotzo Watches) and Edna Balgarka (One Bulgarian Woman). If you wish you can even stay the night, as the monastery offers accommodations.

The Seven Seats Monastery

This monastery is situated at 40 km from the city of Svoge and around 80 from Sofia. Again, this is a small monastery, but it has some beautiful views. Aditonally, the monastery is on the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgari list.

When at the starting parking, you should follow the wooden rail and go downhill. This is the most taxing part of our journey as there are quite a few steep stones and after that some steps stairs. But no worries! The fun part is just starting!

The Grandpa Yotso’s Watching statue

You can reach the monument, when you take the road to the city of Svoge and just before the village of Ochin Dol you will see the statue on the top of the hill. When you reach the top with the statue, you will be greeted with a magnificent view of the valley below. If you feel weary from you journey, there’s also a small restaurant near the monument!

Overall?

It's a fun way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon around Sofia. If you have the time, then just do it!
